Learning About Online University Programs:

Taking classes through an online university can be a bit confusing at first. But, most online university students are easily able to navigate through their coursework once they understand how virtual schools operate.

If you’re new to the world of elearning, this article will walk you through the basics of online university programs.

Online University Enrollment:

Enrolling in an online university is very similar to enrolling in a traditional college. Each online university has its own requirements. You will probably need to turn in materials such as test scores, letters of recommendation, essays, and transcripts.

Some online university programs have open-enrollment policies. They allow any student to take online university courses without providing the above documentation. Simply sign-up on the online university website, choose the courses you need, and pay your tuition.

Lectures and Class Interaction in Online University Programs:

Most online university courses provide video, audio, or written lectures. Real-time, synchronous courses allow students to interact with online university professors via chatroom or virtual conference. Asynchronous courses permit students to access pre-created lecture material from the online university website at any time.

Many online university courses also schedule time for peer discussions. You may be required to interact with fellow students via chat room or message board.

Online University Assignments:

Online university professors may have strict assignment deadlines or may allow students to turn in assignments any time before the end of the course.

Online universities offering self-paced programs are more flexible with assignment deadlines.

Online University Tests:

Encouraged by federal legislation, online universities implement policies to discourage cheating. Some online universities still allow students to take tests from their homes. However, it is becoming increasingly common for online universities to require proctors. A proctor is a person qualified to oversee a student’s tests and ensure that no cheating has occurred. Online university students may be able to find a proctor at a public library, local school, or test-taking center. Generally, online university counselors are available to help students find a suitable option.

Graduating from an Online University:

While many online university students opt for a quiet celebration with friends and family, a growing number of schools are now offering graduation options. Some online university programs invite graduates to travel to campus and walk across the stage with traditional students. Others offer online graduation ceremonies in virtual worlds such as Second Life.
