The 2003 soundtrack to How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days has the same easy-breezy feel as the hit romantic comedy. Shortly before the release of the film, Virgin Records released the How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days: Music From the Motion Picture soundtrack album on January 28, 2003.

Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey star in the romantic comedy that follows Andie Anderson (Hudson), a women's magazine writer who would rather tackle issues like politics and the economy, rather than the topics her fluffy column typically covers.

For Andie’s newest assignment, she’s been charged with finding a guy, getting him to fall in love with her, and then making a slew of dating mistakes so he'll wind up dumping her in ten days. McConaughey co-stars as her hapless victim. Of course, in classic romantic comedy fashion, hilarity and misadventure ensue. After all, how can a woman drop Matthew McConaughey that easily?

How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days was a major box office success, grossing $105.8 million in the United States and $71.6 million internationally for a combined gross of $177.4 million worldwide.

The How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days: Music From the Motion Picture soundtrack album is rooted in classics, like  “Let’s Stay Together" by Al Green, “You’re So Vain" by Carly Simon, "Who Do You Love?" by George Thorogood & The Destroyers. Two songs were popular 1990s hits, including "Follow You Down" by the Gin Blossoms and "Kiss Me" by Sixpence None the Richer.

The soundtrack also includes tracks from lesser-known artists like Tom Luce, Fisher, the Beu Sisters, Chantal Kreviazuk and Keith Urban, who was still an up-and-coming artist upon the film’s release and not yet the country music superstar he would soon become.

In fact, the soundtrack spawned Urban's hit single "Somebody Like You," which was his second #1 hit on Billboard's Hot Country Singles & Tracks Chart.

It also peaked at #23 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, #3 on the Canadian Hot 100, #42 in Germany, and was certified Gold by both the RIAA and the ARIA (the Australian Recording Industry Association). The song has had enduring popularity -- in December 2009, Billboard declared it the number one country song of the first decade of the 21st century.

The How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days: Music From the Motion Picture soundtrack album peaked at #7 on the Billboard Soundtrack Chart and #96 on the Billboard Hot 200, which made it a very successful album for a compilation of mostly classic songs.
