Discussion of IIT's Admissions Standards:

The Illinois Institute of Technology has selective admissions, and nearly half of all applicants will not get in. Successful applicants tend to have GPAs above a 3.0, SAT scores over 1150 (RW+M), and ACT composite scores of 23 or higher. You'll see that many of IIT's admitted students had grades up in the "A" range. Applicants tend to have particular strengths in math and the sciences.

Throughout the graph you'll see a few red dots (rejected students) and yellow dots (waitlisted students) overlapping with the green and the blue. A handful of students who seemed to be on target for admission to IIT did not get in. You can also see that some students with grades and test scores below the norm managed to get in. This is because IIT has holistic admissions and looks at factors other than numerical data. IIT uses the Common Application and will be looking for strong letters of recommendation, an engaging personal statement, and participation in meaningful extracurricular activities.
