Discussion of Iona College's Admissions Standards:

Iona College isn't overly selective, and the great majority of applicants are admitted. That said, the applicant pool is self-selecting, and most successful applicants have grades and standardized test scores that are at least average. In the graph above, the blue and green data points represent students who received acceptance letters. You can see that most had SAT scores (RW+M) of 950 or higher, an ACT composite of 18 or higher, and a high school average of a "B-" or better. Your chances of getting in will improve if your grades and SAT/ACT scores are above these lower ranges, and you'll notice that Iona admits a significant number of applicants who had solid "A" averages in high school.

You'll notice a few red dots (rejected students) and yellow dots (waitlisted students) mixed in with the green and blue throughout the graph. This tells us that a few students who seemed to be on target for Iona College were not admitted. You'll also notice a few students with sub-par grades and test scores who were admitted. These seeming inconsistencies exist because Iona's admissions process is not a simple mathematical equation. The college looks not just at your GPA, but the rigor of your high school courses. Success in AP, IB, Honors, and Dual-Enrollment courses all help demonstrate your college readiness. Also, Iona has a holistic admissions process and uses many non-numerical measures to evaluate applicants. Your Common Application should include a strong application essay, a list of meaningful extracurricular activities, honors, and/or work experiences. You can further strengthen your application with letters of recommendation; these are optional, but if you have teachers, coaches or counselors who can speak favorably about your academic skills and potential, the letters will be a plus.
