Notable Books by the Author Who Brought You Stephanie Plum Mysteries

Janet Evanovich became one of the most popular authors in America through her Stephanie Plum series, but before writing thrillers, she was a romance novelist. She has also published nonfiction and short stories. Here are a dozen of the books that launched her series and kept fans coming back for more.

"One for the Money"

"One for the Money" is the book that really put Evanovich on the map in 1994. It is the story of Stephanie Plum, a wacky Jersey girl who takes a bounty hunter job in order to make some money. Plum's adventures in love and bounty hunting continue in more than 20 books with number titles, which are published once per year. The titles make it easy to remember where you are in the series. Opinions vary as to whether they peaked around "Twelve Sharp." These Stephanie Plum books will provide countless hours of beach reading for Evanovich fans. "One for the Money" was released as a movie starring Katherine Heigl in 2012.

'Full House'

Evanovich originally wrote "Full House" under the name Steffie Hall in 1989. In 2002, she teamed up with Charlotte Hughes to expand the novel and turn it into a series. It was republished with the same title. "Full House" is the first book in a series of romantic adventures. In this book, comedy takes the forefront as divorced mom Billie Pearce takes polo lessons wealthy newspaper owner Nick Kaharchek. It's no mystery that romance will ensue. 

"Full Tilt"

"Full Tilt" is the second book in the "Full" series, which Evanovich co-wrote with Charlotte Hughes. The action and romance take place in Beaumont, South Carolina and involve characters Maximillian Hold and Jamie Swift. There will be plenty of plot complications for them if you continue with the series in "Full Speed," and "Full Blast." 

"Manhunt"

"Manhunt" is about Alexandra Scott, a woman who leaves her Wall Street job and moves to Alaska to find a man. When the man she's looking for appears, he's determined not to get caught. This was a Steffie Hall novel that HarperCollins republished in 2005.

"Visions of Sugar Plums"

"Metro Girl"

"Metro Girl" (2004) is the first book in a series starring Alexandra Barnaby, or "Barney." She has brains, but her brother doesn't. When he goes missing, she goes to Florida to find him. If you enjoy this book, Hooker and Barney are back with adventures in Miami in the second book in the Alex Barnaby series, "Motor Mouth." You can also find the characters in the graphic novel, "Trouble Maker," by Janet Evanovich, her daughter Alex Evanovich, and artist Joelle Jones 

"Full Bloom"

"Full Scoop" introduces more characters and a new mystery to Beaumont, SC while continuing the storylines readers loved in other novels in the "Full" series. The Full books are co-authored with Charlotte Hughes.

"Plum Spooky"

Previous "between the numbers" Stephanie Plum stories were short novellas, making "Plum Spooky" the first full-length Stephanie Plum novel that is not numbered. Plum joins forces with super bounty hunter Diesel to track down Wulf Grimoire and Martin Munch in the Jersey Pine Barrens. Diesel and Wulf will also appear in her "Wicked" series.

"Love in a Nutshell"

Janet Evanovich teams up with Dorien Kelly to write "Love in a Nutshell," a romantic mystery about a woman who relocates to her family's summer home after her husband leaves her. She wants to start a Bed & Breakfast, but to raise the cash she needs she takes a job in a bar spying on the employees for the boss.

"Wicked Appetite"

In "Wicked Appetite," Evanovich jumps on the supernatural stories bandwagon and starts a new series that takes place in Salem, Massachusetts. Lizzy the pastry chef and Diesel the bounty hunter are searching for a collection of ancient relics, which are also pursued by Diesel's evil cousin. This mystery revolves around the sin of gluttony. The series continues in "Wicked Business," with a focus on lust. It's easy to see that the seven deadly sins will the theme of the series.

"Hot Stuff"

Janet Evanovich teams up with Leanne Banks in "Hot Stuff," a novel about a bartender in Boston whose cross-dressing roommate disappears, leaving her with a large dog to care for and a mystery to solve.
