Experience

Jennifer Merin is a former writer for ThoughtCo who penned documentary film critiques for nearly seven years. As a dedicated film journalist, she watches all current documentary film releases as well as continually revisiting the classics. Having worked on documentary films, Merin is aware of the ways in which different directors handle the genre to reveal the truth about the world around us while her experience as a news reporter and editor gives her an insider's understanding of media spin.

Merin reviews films and interviews filmmakers for New York Press, a leading alternative weekly newspaper, and she's the film critic for Women's eNews, reports on film and cultural matters for Westwood One Radio Network's morning drive news program, "America in the Morning," and contributes to TheReeler.com. Merin's worked as news writer and editor for ABC and CNN and reporter for NBC. Her ongoing weekly column about culture and travel has resided in Los Angeles Times, Associated Press, Los Angeles Times Syndicate, Tribune Media, Creators Syndicate, and is currently distributed by ArcaMax publishing.

As well as being a leading journalist in the field, Merin is president of the Alliance of Women Film Journalists, a nonprofit association of women covering film and the movie industry that also presents the annual EDA Awards. Merin edits and publishes AWFJ Women On Film, the organization's syndicated journal.
