'Jeopardy!' Kids Week

Kids get to take the podiums on this special Jeopardy! theme week

Jeopardy is one of those game shows that has been on the air long enough to have tried and true, regular theme weeks that fans anticipate each and every season. One such theme week is Kids Week, which pits youngsters between the ages of ten and twelve against each other to win prize money for their college funds. Kids Week kicked off in 1999 and has become a semi-regular "tournament" ever since.

How it Works:

The rules for Kids Week are a little different than for the regular Jeopardy game. The winner of each round does not move on to the next game – rather, there are three fresh faces for every episode. The third place contestant earns a consolation prize of $1000, the runner-up wins $2000, and the winner of the game gets to keep what they've earned during the course of the game. There are also prizes for each contestant, including books, games, computers, and other items with an educational use.

The Vibe:

The Jeopardy set is usually updated for Kids Week, with a more fun and youthful décor. Host Alex Trebek also seems more energetic during these weeks, exchanging banter and anecdotes with the kids.

Who Should Watch:

Fans of Jeopardy usually enjoy this brief departure from the usual game. Kids Week also appeals to families with children in the 8-14 age range, as it's fun to play along at home.
