Jesus Christ is the only begotten son of God, the Creator, our Savior, and the perfect example of who we should try to be. Read about Christ's atonement, crucifixion, and resurrection and you will understand why we need a Savior.

Jesus Christ is the Only Begotten Son of God

Jesus Christ is the firstborn spirit child of God. Although each of us is a spirit son or daughter of God, the Eternal Father, only Jesus Christ is God's son in the flesh.

Born of the virgin Mary, Jesus Christ, is the only begotten son of the Father. The Only Begotten is just one of the many names of Jesus Christ. He is also known as Alpha and Omega, the First and the Last, and the Creator of All Things.

Jesus' birth and life had a sacred purpose. His death also had a sacred purpose. His atonement was necessary to save us.

Christ is the Creator

Under the direction of our Father in Heaven, Jesus Christ created the earth and all things that are upon it, including the plants, animals, and mankind. He also created the heavens, thus He is the creator of both heaven and earth. In 3 Nephi 9:15, Jesus proclaims who He is:

Behold, I am Jesus Christ the Son of God. I created the heavens and the earth, and all things that in them are. I was with the Father from the beginning. I am in the Father, and the Father in me; and in me hath the Father glorified his name.

Jesus Christ Atoned for All Mankind

We are told in the scriptures that Christ atoned for everyone's sins.

As the Only Begotten Son, Jesus Christ suffered for all our sins, transgressions, pains, sorrows, and deficiencies. This great sacrifice is called the Atonement. The suffering Christ went through is incomprehensible to us, but the pain and anguish He experienced caused the Son of God to sweat blood from His pores.

Christ was Crucified

Jesus Christ was betrayed by His apostle, Judas Iscariot, and was brought before the Roman ruler, Pilate, who sentenced Christ to death by crucifixion. Roman soldiers carried out Pilate's order and crucified Jesus on a cross by hammering nails into His palms and feet.

The gospel of John further describes what Christ endured. He was crucified along with two others on each side of him. Christ gave up His life and died upon the cross. Afterwards, His body was taken down and placed in a burial tomb.

Jesus Christ Lives

Three days after His death Jesus Christ was resurrected- His spirit returned to His body, making His soul perfect and immortal. Christ was the first person on this earth to be resurrected and His death and resurrection are part of the Atonement.

There were many who saw the resurrected Christ, such as the Nephite nation in the Americas. After Jesus appeared to His other sheep He ascended to His father where He dwells with Him in heaven. There are many who testify that Christ lives, including ancient and modern prophets whose words have been recorded in the scriptures.

Jesus Christ is Our Savior

Christ saved us from both physical and spiritual death. Thus Jesus Christ is our Savior.

Nothing we can do, in and of ourselves, can save us from sin, only Christ can. All He asks is that we accept Him and receive His gift by exercising faith in Him, repenting, and obeying His commandments.

Christ is the Perfect Example

By living a perfect life free of Sin, Jesus Christ showed each of us how we must live that we too may become perfect like Him.

Christ showed us how to love one another, how to pray, and how to be humble. He showed us how to be baptized when He entered the waters of Jordan and was baptized by John the Baptist.

Jesus Christ is the only Son of God in the flesh and that He is our Savior and our Redeemer. As we follow Christ's perfect example we too will be blessed with His peace, joy, and love.
