The Jung surname means "young," and was often used to distinguish the younger of two men with the same name, such as a son from a father or the younger of two cousins. It derives from the German word jung, from the Middle High German junc, meaning "young." YOUNG is the English variant of the surname, while JAROS is found in Poland.

According to "Dictionary of American Family Names," Jung can also be a variant of the Chinese name Rong, or Korean name Chong. It is a common surname in both countries.
