Katrina Schmidt is a former writer for ThoughtCo. She has more than 15 years’ experience teaching private and group voice lessons in her home studio, at Brigham Young University, and Utah Valley University. Katrina performs regularly as a soloist and chorus member in weddings, funerals, recitals, church services, church and community choirs, musical theater, and with the Omaha Symphonic Chorus.
Katrina has a master’s degree in music with an emphasis in vocal performance from Brigham Young University (BYU). There, she was privileged to work with top coaches, music educators, music librarians, and musicologists. She was awarded a yearly scholarship and honored as one of BYU’s Singers of the Year. In addition to her other classes, Katrina studied French, Italian, and German. She speaks German fluently and took upper-level courses in German pronunciation and grammar.
Katrina’s performance roles range from Rosalinde in Die Fledermaus (Johann Strauss II, 1874) to Maria in West Side Story (Arthur Laurents, Leonard Bernstein, and Stephen Sondheim, 1957). She stars as a soprano soloist in numerous recitals and various productions of Handel’s Messiah. She performed in four, hour-long concerts of specific styles and hard-to-find music. These performances included one on Germanic women composers, another of religious-themed music, and a third comprised of the music of Bach and other early composers. Katrina was lead vocalist for a folk band which toured elementary schools.
Katrina Schmidt received a Masters Music (M.M.) in Vocal Performance from Brigham Young University. She also holds a bachelors and an associates degree in Vocal Performance from Brigham Young University.
