Discussion of Kettering University's Admissions Standards: Roughly a third of applicants to Kettering University will not get in. Successful applicants tend to have above average grades and standardized test scores. In the graph above, the blue and green dots represent students who were admitted. Most had SAT scores (RW+M) of 1050 or higher, an ACT composite of 21 or higher, and a high school average of a "B+" or better. The majority of admitted students had grades up in the "A" range. Because of Kettering's business and engineering focus, strong grades and test scores in math will be particularly important. Note that there are a few red dots (rejected students) and yellow dots (waitlisted students) mixed in with the green and blue throughout the graph. Some students with grades and test scores that were on target for Kettering did not get get in. On the flip side, you'll notice that a few students were accepted with test scores and grades a bit below the norm. This is because Kettering University has holistic admissions and evaluates the whole student, not just a student's numerical measures. Whether you use Kettering's application or the Common Application, the admissions folks will be looking for a strong application essay, meaningful extracurricular activities, and positive letters of recommendation.
