Kristen Hall-Geisler worked as copy editor and managing editor at Sports Car Market magazine for three years before becoming a freelance automotive journalist.
Kristen Hall-Geisler has driven Corvettes, Vipers, Maseratis, Jaguars, and more as part of her job as a freelance automotive journalist. She has written about exotic car manufacturers from Alfa Romeo to Spyker Cars for Sports Car Market magazine, the New York Times, Details, Portland Monthly, and Ultimate Northwest. Her favorite recent drive was in an Audi S5 through the Cascade Range in Oregon.
In 2001, I had just moved to Portland, Oregon, and was looking for a job. I used my computer skills and a long family history of car lust to land a job doing data entry for Sports Car Market magazine. I moved up to copy editor and then managing editor pretty quickly. Four and a half years later, after many trips to the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance and the January slate of auctions in Arizona with the magazine, I struck out on my own to write about cars great and small.
In the two years since, I have written about Alfa Romeo's return to the U.S. (and given a talk to the local Alfa owners' club), the convoluted history of Spyker Cars, and electric-vehicle racing.
Like many who drive cars for a living, my own car is a decidedly non-glamorous, little, red pickup truck that has to park under the walnut tree in front of my house to make room for the test cars in the garage.
