Discussion of Lawrence University's Admissions Standards:

Lawrence University has moderately selective admissions, and roughly one out of three applicants will not be admitted. Successful students tend to have above-average grades. In the graph above, the blue and green data points represent students who received acceptances. You can see that most had SAT scores (RW+M) of 1100 or higher, an ACT composite of 22 or higher, and a high school average of a "B+" or better. You'll notice that there's a lot more variation in standardized test scores than grades. This is because Lawrence University has test-optional admissions. Your grades and interests matter far more than the SAT or ACT. To quote the Lawrence University admissions website: "We consider test scores if you elect to submit them. We are test optional because we know that there are inherent flaws in trying to sum up your ability and potential by taking a single exam. If you are pleased with your scores, we would be pleased to see them, but we don’t look at you any differently if you do not submit."

Lawrence University tries to find applicants who are a good match for the school through its holistic admissions process. That is, the admissions officers try to get to know you as a whole person, not as a bunch of numerical data. Whether you use the Lawrence University application or the Common Application, the admissions folks will be looking for a strong application essay, meaningful extracurricular activities, and positive letters of recommendation. Also, Lawrence University like all selective colleges takes into consideration the rigor of your high school courses, not just your grades. AP, IB, and Dual-Enrollment courses can all play in your favor. If you're applying to the Conservatory, you will also need to audition. Finally, you can further strengthen your application by doing an optional interview. Lawrence highly recommends an interview (whether it be in-person or via Skype), and it is one of the best ways to demonstrate your interest in Lawrence.
