Discussion of LIU Brooklyn's Admissions Standards:

Admission to LIU Brooklyn is not overly selective, and most hard-working students with decent grades and standardized test scores should have little difficulty being admitted. In the admissions scattergram above, the blue and green dots represent admitted students. You can see that the accepted student range extends to the edge of the graph, so some students are admitted with "C" averages, combined SAT scores (RW+M) of around 850, and an ACT composite score of 16. The majority of admitted students, however, have higher test scores and grades in the "B" range or better, and the university has plenty of students with grades up in the "A" range.

You'll notice some red dots (rejected students) and yellow dots (waitlisted students) in the middle of the graph--within the range where we would expect them to be admitted. These seeming inconsistencies in admissions standards can probably be traced to a logical explanation: students may have been rejected because of an incomplete application, a lack of required core college preparatory classes, or an issue with an applicant's disciplinary or criminal history. LIU Brooklyn does have holistic admissions and is a member of the Common Application. As a result, the admissions folks will also take into consideration your application essay, extracurricular activities, and letters of recommendation. Also, like most colleges, LIU Brooklyn looks at the rigor of your high school courses, not just your grades.
