Discussion of Longwood's Admissions Standards:

Longwood University is a public university located in Farmville, Virginia. Admissions aren't overly selective, but applicants will need solid grades and standardized test scores to be admitted. About one in four applicants will not get in. In the graph above, the blue and green dots represent accepted students. As you can see, the majority of successful applicants had high school GPAs of "B" or better, combined SAT scores of about 1000 or higher (RW+M), and ACT composite scores of 20 or better. The Longwood website states that admitted students have an average GPA of 3.4.

While test scores and grades are important parts of the Longwood admissions equation, they are not the only factors. The admissions folks will be looking to see that you have taken challenging high school courses, written an engaging personal statement, and participated in interesting extracurricular activities. Success in Advanced Placement, IB, Honors, and dual enrollment classes can all play a positive role in the decision process, for these courses are all good predictors of college success. To quote the Longwood admissions website, "Extracurricular activities, community service, personal statements, special talents, leadership and other factors may also be considered. Primary emphasis, however, is placed on academic credentials."
