Discussion of LSU's Admissions Standards:

Roughly a quarter of applicants to LSU, the Louisiana State University and Agricultural and Mechanical College, don't get in. Most successful applicants have grades and standardized test scores that are at least a little above average. In the graph above, the blue and green dots represent accepted students. The majority of admitted students had an ACT composite score of 21 or higher and a combined SAT score of about 1050 or higher (RW+M). You'll also notice that successful applicants tended to have high school averages of "B" or better. Higher test scores and grades obviously improve your chances of getting an acceptance letter, and almost no students with "A" averages and above average ACT scores were rejected.

Note that there are a few red dots (rejected students) and yellow dots (waitlisted students) hidden behind the green and blue in the middle of the graph. Some students with grades and test scores that were on target for LSU did not get accepted. Note also that several students were accepted with test scores and grades a bit below the norm. This is because LSU uses more than numerical data to make admission decisions. They will be evaluating the rigor of your high school courses, and interesting extracurricular activities and strong letters of recommendation can strengthen an application with marginal grades and test scores.
