Aftermath of Love on the Run

Luke and Laura have returned from their Love on the Run adventure. Now, back to ordinary life in Port Charles, they were no longer speaking.

Laura was riddled with guilt because she fell in love with Luke while married to Scott Baldwin, but she still wanted to be with Luke. In an attempt to win him back, she moved into his apartment building in order to run into him.

The Search Begins

Working for Frank Smith, and then going on the run with Laura -- Luke Spencer would never be content with ordinary life again.

He went to work with Edward Quartermaine and Edward's beautiful niece Alexandria, both of whom were searching for the Ice Princess, the world's largest uncut diamond.

The Quartermaines were not the only people looking for the Ice Princess. Mikkos Cassadine, a Greek billionaire, wanted it also. His ultimate goal was world domination.

Luke and Laura, meanwhile, reconciled and decided to marry. Around this time, Robert Scorpio, who worked for the World Security Bureau, or WSB, told Luke that the Ice Princess diamond was part of a statue. That statue contained a formula for a substance called "carbonic snow" which had the ability to freeze whole cities.

Hiding on the Titan

Alexandria wormed her way into the Cassadine clan and worked alongside Mikkos' brothers Victor and Tony. Alexandria retrieved the diamond and delivered it on the Titan, the Cassadine yacht (which later was renamed The Haunted Star).

Luke and Robert hid on the yacht -- but so, they learned, has Laura.

The yacht sailed to the Cassadine's private island. There, they realized that Mikkos Cassadine planned to use the carbonic snow as a bargaining chip, holding the world for ransom.

To prove the power of the snow, he planned to use Port Charles as an example and turn it into a giant popsicle.

It was the middle of the summer, and suddenly, the city experienced a blizzard.

Alexandria and Tony were killed as they endeavored to stop Mikkos. Luke hacked into the machine and turned off the deep freeze. Mikkos also dies. Luke, Laura, and Robert returned to Port Charles as heroes.

That behind them, the couple planned their wedding. However, Scott's dad, Lee, burned Scott and Laura's divorce papers while drunk.

Lee Baldwin went to Mexico in an attempt to locate his son, but to no avail. Laura decided to get a Mexican divorce, although, should her husband contest it, the divorce would not be valid.

The Wedding & the Curse

The much-anticipated wedding took place on November 17, 1981. It was a huge event, attended by not only Port Charles residents and Robert, but Luke and Laura's friends from Beecher's Corners. as well as assorted family, including Luke's sister, Bobbie.

Bobbie and Laura had both been in love with Scott at the same time, and they had a fierce rivalry. They made up, though Bobbie would never be Laura's number one fan. For Luke's sake, however, and knowing that the couple loved one another, she let go of her bitterness.

Bobbie may have released the pain of the past, but Helena Cassadine, Mikkos'  widow, had not.

She appeared at the wedding and placed a curse on the newlyweds, whom she blamed for the loss of her husband.

The curse Helena put on the couple was felt almost immediately. In 1982, Laura, while standing on a pier in Port Charles, disappeared. A journalist named Jackie Templeton (Demi Moore) approached Luke and told him that her sister also disappeared in a similar situation and was returned unharmed.

Later, Luke was told that Laura had been killed, though he didn't believe it. Had Laura really gone? And why? What happened to her?
