Halloween Costumes for Mad Scientists and More

Do you want to dress up like a mad scientist? Here are some science costume ideas for Halloween or costume parties.

Keep in mind, you don't need to go out and buy items for a mad scientist costume! You can cut an old white t-shirt up the middle to make a lab coat. Any glasses will do for safety goggles. Tape the bridge of the glasses for a crazy look. Craft a bow tie from colored paper. You can also make radiation badges or biohazard symbols from paper. Your favorite crazy hairstyle conveys madness. Props could include a calculator, dissected stuffed animal, slime, glass of bubbling ooze... you get the picture.

The key to duplicating this look is to mousse or spray your hair. Safety goggles or reading glasses are a plus, but the stand-out here is the guy's accessory: a flask of colored water containing a chunk of dry ice. If you don't have dry ice, you can get bubbles using an Alka-Seltzer tablet. While it's hard to find beakers outside of an actual lab, you may be able to find plastic beakers in the Halloween candy section.

What makes a great scientist Halloween costume? It's as simple as wearing a lab coat. If you don't have a lab coat, you can make one yourself by simply cutting a plain white t-shirt up the center. Goggles, gloves, or a magnifying glass are nice accessories to add to this Halloween costume.
