Haku and Sen from Studio Ghibli's Spirited Away

The perfect location chosen for the photo shoot and the on point Haku and Sen (or Chihiro) costumes worn by GeshaPetrovich and China really bring together this Spirited Away cosplay nicely. The photo retouching does scream more Mysterious Cities of Gold than the mystical Japanese town seen in Spirited Away but it does capture the sense of fantasy that the film exudes very well.

Studio Ghibli's Laputa: Castle in the Sky Cosplay

It's not often that someone chooses to cosplay as Pazu from Laputa: Castle in the Sky which makes this particular cosplay all the more special. Avatariroh has the perfect look for the character and manages to give the animated character a sense of realism by forgoing the use of makeup which is so often overused.

While not as fantastical a character as Studio Ghibli's numerous spirits and magical creatures, Sophie, from Howl's Moving Castle, has quickly garnered a rather strong following of fans who love to represent the character when they cosplay. This is one of the best Sophie cosplays as done by GianMarqu.

Also from Studio Ghibli's Howl's Moving Castle, the film's main character, Howl, is also a popular choice for many anime cosplayers thanks to his vibrant fashion and complex personality. Interestingly, a lot of the Howl cosplayers appear to be women which adds an entirely new dimension to the finished look.

Ketsu.Ri and H.i.t.o.m.i. look amazing as Haku and Sen from Studio Ghibli's classic film, Spirited Away. Spot-on body lanuage and the perfect location for the photo shot by studioK2 which mimics the famous scene from the movie where the two cross the bridge to the bathhouse.

Yubaba from Studio Ghibli's Spirited Away

Easily one of the best portrayals of the Spirited Away character, Yubaba, Matsu-Sotome is a dead ringer for the emotionally complex witch thanks to the gorgeous wig, amazing prosthetic nose, and detailed jewelery. It's as if the character has truly come alive.

Also by Matsu-Sotome, this cosplay of Dola from Laputa: Castle in the Sky is brilliant for all the same reasons that her Yubaba cosplay rocked so much. Inspiring use of prosthetics and wig and a great ability to capture the personality of the animated performance. Well done!

This Haku cosplay is a great example of how a photo location can really pull together an entire concept. Being a river spirit, the river itself is as much a part of Haku as his dragon form and this image expresses that perfectly.

Another great example of how the perfect setting can complement an anime character cosplay is this image of a Howl's Moving Castle cosplayer posing in a town not unlike that seen in the Studio Ghibli animated masterpiece. A great concept pulled together wonderfully.

13
Spirited Away Sen Cosplay and CGI Haku

While anime cosplayers have been using image editing software to enhance their photos for a while now, this Spirited Away cosplay takes things to an entirely new level with its fully CGI-created Haku in his dragon form (created by Peck Gonzales). Dinnan also looks great as Chihiro (or Sen) and the merging of physical costuming and digital creation blends perfectly. It's like a live action Spirited Away movie!

Created for an anime convention in Moscow, this incredible Howl cosplay really sets the bar high for professional level make-up and costumes going forward. Inspired by Howl's beast form in Studio Ghibli's Howl's Moving Castle, this cosplay brings a stylised gothic look to the costume and harkens back to films such as The Crow and Edward Scissorhands. Truly incredible work with amazing craftmanship.
