Spanish Verb Maquillarse Conjugation

The Spanish verb maquillarse means to put makeup on or to do your makeup. It is a regular -ar verb that is mostly used reflexively, like the verbs cepillarse or casarse. The tables below include maquillarse conjugations in the present, past and future indicative, the present and past subjunctive, the imperative, and other verb forms. To conjugate this verb, be sure to include the reflexive pronouns (me, te, se, nos, and os).

Using Maquillar or Maquillarse

The verb maquillar can be used non-reflexively, in which case it is a transitive verb that is used to talk about doing someone else's makeup. For example, you can say Ella maquilla a su hija (She does her daughter's makeup). In that example, notice that we must include the personal a before the direct object (su hija).

When the infinitive of the verb maquillarse includes the reflexive pronoun se, it means that it is a reflexive verb where the subject does their own makeup. Therefore, the conjugations should all include the corresponding reflexive pronoun. For example, Ella se maquilla antes de ir a trabajar (She puts makeup on before going to work) or Yo me maquillo por la mañana (I put makeup on in the morning).

The imperfect tense is used to talk about habitual or ongoing actions in the past, and it can be translated as "used to put on makeup" or "was putting on makeup."

To conjugate the periphrastic future you need the present tense conjugation of the verb ir (to go), plus the preposition a, and the infinitive of the verb. The reflexive pronoun should be placed before the conjugated verb ir.

To form the past participle for -ar verbs you should add the ending -ado. The past participle can be used as an adjective, to form the passive voice, or to form compound tenses like the present perfect.
