When the totals of the list of numbers are odd ( for instance, there are 9, 13, 27, 101...numbers, the median will be the middle entry or number in the list after you have sorted the list into ascending order. However, when the totals of the list are even, a slightly different calculation is needed. The median is equal to the sum of the two numbers in the middle (after you have sorted the list into ascending order) divided by two. Therefore, remember to line up your numbers from smallest to largest and the middle number is the median! Be sure to remember the odd and even rule. A quick rule of thumb is that the median is middle, the number in the middle in an increasing set of numbers. Examples:To Calculate the Median of: 9, 3, 44, 17, 15 (There is an odd amount of numbers: 5)Line up the numbers: 3, 9, 15, 17, 44 (smallest to largest)The Median for this group of number is: 15 (The number in the middle) To Calculate the Median of: 8, 3, 44, 17, 12, 6 (There is an even amount of numbers: 6)Line up the numbers: 3, 6, 8, 12, 17, 44Add the 2 middle numbers, then divide them by 2: 8 12 = 20 ÷ 2 = 10The Median for this group of number is 10. 02 of 05 Median Worksheet 2 of 5 Median Worksheet 2.
