Mercury in Aquarius - Mercury Signs

Mercury Aquarius guys and gals really do think different.  They connect random dots, and are experimental like that.  Sometimes it works and is brilliant.  Other times, not so much.

It's a Mercury that's hyper-quick on the uptake, and bored easily by long, drawn out explanations.  You're erratic at times, and rebel against boredom in shocking ways.

You can be abrupt and tactless, but also wake everyone up to approaches that are ahead of their time.

I use space-agey images for Aquarius a lot, and have that association of Aqua with far-out ideas, even alien ones that seem extreme.  Mercury Aquarius can hold what others see as extremist views, and be pretty stubborn about them.  Then, just as quickly, they revolt against their own mindset, and embrace new ideas.

Aquarians have a quirky relationship to technology, I've noticed.  Either they're "all in" with gadgets and living online, or they're defiantly low tech, with an invisible digital footprint.

The ruler of Aquarius is Uranus, and that's the planet of electric surges, and out of the blue inspiration.  Uranus is the higher octave of Mercury, so to have Aquarius here gives you that crazy edge.  You walk that line between crazy genius and just crazy.

As April Elliott Kent writes in Practical Astrology, "You're extremely opinionated and you are probably a little bit bonkers.

 It's not a great combo."

If you get banned from groups, or blocked on social media, you're less likely to give a flip.

Fixed Focus

One thing you've got going for you is focus, and I notice this when Mercury is in Aquarius.

Those with Mercury in Aquarius take great mental leaps forward, and are geared toward logical, objective thinking.

Mercury is exalted in this air sign, which means the planet of communication moves along speedily, and with ease.

In Aquarius, Mercury has a fixed focus, but information is seemingly plucked out of the air. It's like they're tuned into distant frequencies, that are channeled into this awareness. Because of this, their ideas are often highly original, or ahead of their time.

Apex Thinker

The Aquarian thinker is a neutral party in any discussion, and has a gift for reading into the collective mindwaves. Their own ideas have the mark of individuality, even eccentricity, but they're aware of the pulse of the group, as well. Their thinking is often progressive, and challenging to the status quo.

The Aquarian mindset is loyal to concepts and 'the truth,' not as much to people. That's why they're often verbally combative, and enjoy exposing the subjective bias of opinions. It's possible for them to become 'know-it-alls,' that don't see the flaws in their own thinking.

Loyal to Ideas

Sometimes they argue just to be different, and end up defending a train of thought that they're not invested in at all. They're at home in the realm of public discourse, and many notable social commentators and talk show hosts have this Mercury.

Not emotionally weighed down by ideas, they can present different sides, and play Devil's Advocate when necessary.

This is one role for this change-agent Mercury. The ideas are prodded out of people and tossed around, then synthesized into something totally unexpected. Their goal is to be thought-provoking, and respected for their intellect, not necessarily to be liked.

Mercury in Aquarius has a gift for the big picture. But true to the paradoxical Aquarian nature, it's a Mercury that can get stuck in a narrow grove of thinking, dismissive of other opinions. Theirs is a mind enamored with processes and systems, and many are drawn to science and technology.

There's an element of mystery in how they arrive at conclusions. Often, they lay out facts, but as explorers of far-out mental realms, what they present resembles nothing currently in existence.

Some are drawn to metaphysics, or venture into the arts.

These are original thinkers with minds that are capable of doing genius things. Mercury in Aquarius follows their own inspirations to the outer limit and beyond.
