Michael San Filippo is a former writer for ThoughtCo for more than 16 years. As he was working on his degree in Italian Studies, Michael lived and studied in Italy for more than three years. He studied at the total-immersion, Eurocentres Firenze language school. 

Michael is a published writer and writes prolifically on Italian culture and Italian language. His books include Learn Italian in a Hurry (Adams, 2007) and The Everything Learning Italian Book (Everything, 2002). Michael shares his love of the Italian language as a tutor. He works with students of all skill levels and of all ages.


Michael P. San Filippo earned a Master of Arts degree in Italian studies with a concentration in museology at the Middlebury College Italian School Abroad program in Florence, Italy. He also holds a Bachelor Arts degree in Biology from Northeastern University.
