Cue up the hot air jokes, because this Minute to Win It game is just begging for them. To master Mega Bubble you must first blow a bubble, then use your own hot air to move it across the play area and through a waiting hoop.

The Goal

Move a soap bubble fifteen feet through the air and through a hoop using only your own personal wind power. If you're a heavy smoker you're going to have problems with this one.

Equipment Needed

Mega Bubble doesn't need too much in the way of equipment, but you want to make sure that you take the time to set it up right. Here's what is required to play:

  • One bottle of bubble solution and a bubble wand, any kind (pick these up at the dollar store if you don't have them on hand)
  • One small table
  • One hoop - the size of the hoop depends on how difficult you want the game to be. Smaller hoops will be more challenging. Use a hula hoop for kids.
  • Fishing line or other string for hanging the hoop, or other items for keeping the hoop in place (see setup instructions)
  • Chalk or masking tape to mark off a foul line
  • A one-minute timer or stop watch

Setting Up Mega Bubble

The only thing tricky about the setup here is getting the hoop in place. If you can manage it, the best way to go about this is to hang it from the ceiling using fishing line or another strong type of string. The hoop should fall at about face height for the average person - that is, not too high and not too low.

Alternatively, you can place the hoop standing up on a table and keep it in place with a few well-placed gobs of modeling clay. If all else fails, have someone hold the hoop during the game - just make sure that he or she has a steady hand.

Once you've solved the dilemma of the hoop, you can set up the rest of the game.

Place the bubble solution and wand on the table, which should be sitting 15 feet away from the hoop. Mark the 15-foot line with chalk or masking tape so the players know where to start from.

How to Play

The player begins standing behind the foul line. When the one-minute timer starts, pick up the bubble wand and dip it into the solution then blow some bubbles towards the hoop. Pick one bubble and quickly go to it, then blow it across the playing area and through the hoop. If you fail you can go back and blow more bubbles and keep trying, until the timer expires.

The Rules

The rules for Mega Bubble are as follows:

  • You cannot touch the bubbles at all, even with the bubble wand
  • If a bubble bursts while traveling through the hoop it does not count - it must actually go through the hoop and be seen on the other side
  • You may not touch the hoop itself
  • If a player must return to the beginning and start again, he or she must be standing behind the foul line to blow the next set of bubbles.

Tips and Tricks

Keep control of your air flow. If you blow too hard, the sudden burst of air could pop the bubble. Too soft and the bubble will sink to the ground and pop. Choose a small to mid-size bubble for the best strength.

This would make a really fun Easter game if the weather co-operates, since blowing bubbles is a great springtime activity.
