Since 1982 the school has offered admission to men, although enrollments and the institutional mission reflect the university's long history of educating women. With its small size and healthy 13 to 1 student / faculty ratio, the school has the feel of a private liberal arts college but the attractive price tag of a public institution. For a school of its size, MUW offers a broad range of interesting degree programs such as culinary arts and music therapy. Students can choose from 50 majors and concentrations, and professional fields such as nursing, business, and education are some of the most popular among undergraduates. The school's attractive campus includes 23 buildings that are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Student life is active with about 80 clubs and organizations including a small fraternity and sorority system. The university does not have an intercollegiate sports program, but many students participate in intramural sports.
