Discussion of Montana State University's Admissions Standards: Admission to Montana State University isn't overly selective, and the great majority of applicants are admitted. Nevertheless, you will need solid high school grades and standardized test scores to get in. In the graph above, the blue and green dots represent students who won admission. Most had SAT scores (RW+M) of 1000 or higher, an ACT composite of 20 or higher, and a high school average of a "B-" or better. The university certainly has many strong applicants, and you can see that a significant number of admitted students had grades up in the "A" range. Montana State uses grades, class rank, and standardized test scores to determine if students meet the university's admissions requirements (see the details here). However, students who do not meet these requirements can still apply and be admitted as Pre-University Studies students who will take courses in preparation for admittance as full-time MSU students. The Montana State University application does not require an application essay, information about extracurricular activities, or letters of recommendation. Numerical measures such as the ACT and GPA will be the most important factors in the admissions process.
