Discussion of Mount Holyoke College's Admissions Standards:

Mount Holyoke College is a highly selective women's liberal arts college, and roughly one out of every two applicants will not be admitted. To get in, you'll need strong high school grades, and you can further strengthen your application with high SAT or ACT scores. In the graph above, the blue and green dots represent accepted students, and you can see that most students who got into Mount Holyoke had averages of B+ or higher, SAT scores (RW+M) over 1200 and ACT composite scores of 25 or higher. Note that SAT and ACT scores are optional, so your grades are going to matter much more than your test scores.

Mount Holyoke, like most selective liberal arts colleges, has holistic admissions, so successful applicants need to have strengths that go beyond an impressive academic record. This is why you'll notice some red dots (rejected students) and yellow dots (waitlisted students) mixed in with the green and blue in the graph. Competitive applications should have a winning essay, strong letters of recommendation, and interesting extracurricular activities. Your application can be strengthened further by doing an optional interview and, if appropriate, sending along evidence of your artistic or athletic talent.
