Muirfield Village Golf Club, the creation of Jack Nicklaus, is in Dublin, Ohio, outside Nicklaus' hometown of Columbus, Ohio. It is the site every year of the Memorial Tournament on the PGA Tour, which is Nicklaus' tournament. Yes, Muirfield Village is "Jack's Place."

The golf course is sited on 220 acres, land that Nicklaus knew as a boy - his father took him hunting there. The name "Muirfield Village" is an homage to the Muirfield links in Scotland, where Nicklaus won his first British Open title in 1966.

Muirfield Village is considered Nicklaus' masterpiece as a golf course designer, and has consistently been ranked among the top 20 or so golf courses in America in the biennial Golf Digest course rankings.

Can I Play Muirfield Village Golf Club?

Do you know Jack Nicklaus? No? Then probably not. Muirfield Village is a private club. Non-members can play only as the guests of members.

Muirfield Village Origins and Architect

Nicklaus acquired the land in 1966, at a time when he was just starting to get interested in designing golf courses. He apprenticed himself to Pete Dye on a few projects (including Harbour Town Golf Links), and by 1972 was ready to tackle designing the golf course that he envisioned as the home of the Memorial.
Nicklaus was assisted in designing Muirfield Village by architect Desmond Muirhead, but this is considered the first "Jack Nicklaus design" (and still, by acclamation, his best).

From the 1972 start date, it took about two years for the course's completion. But Nicklaus tweaks and updates the layout frequently.
