WHAT: 3rd Annual Hot August Nights Auction
WHEN: August 6 – 8, 2015
WHERE: Reno Tahoe, Nevada

Barrett-Jackson returns with their 3rd Annual Hot August Nights Auction in Reno Tahoe, Nevada August 6-8, 2015. This year’s event will feature TV, racing, and various DUB Magazine vehicles from the famous Day Family Classic Car Museums. It will also feature an impressive collection of Ford Mustangs up for auction.

This includes one signed by Steve Saleen and Parnelli Jones, as well as a pair of KITT cars that starred in NBC’s 2008 movie reprise of the hit TV series “Knight Rider.”

“We’re proud to bring a group of vehicles from the well-known Day Family Classic Cars Museum to our Hot August Nights Auction,” said Craig Jackson, chairman and CEO of Barrett-Jackson. “Owners of large collections, like the Day family and Ron Pratte, have often turned to Barrett-Jackson to shine the spotlight on their vehicles over the last 44 years.”

Knight Rider KITT Mustangs

The 2008 Ford Mustang GT was the inspiration behind NBC’s movie reboot of the hit TV series, “Knight Rider.” The movie’s hero KITT was inspired by the 2008 Shelby GT500KR, as was its “Attack Mode” KITT persona. Both vehicles feature a 4.6L V8 engine. The KITT supercar also comes with a a Ford Racing Whipple Supercharger to produce 400 horsepower, has a Ford Racing handling package, and plays the soundtrack from “Knight Rider” when activated.

The “Attack Mode” KITT features performance upgrades, including a Ford Racing suspension package, Ford Racing mufflers and a special brake for executing the perfect 360-degree maneuver.

At the time the television movie was in production, the 2008 Shelby GT500KR wasn't even being manufactured yet. Ford thought on this for a while and decided to enlist the help of the master car customizers at Galpin Auto Sports (GAS) in Los Angeles, Calif.

The shop is well-known for creating one-of-a-kind vehicles in the California market, and was the creative force behind MTV's Pimp My Ride. According to Ford, "GAS had one week to create the new KITT, and they pulled out all the stops. Six people worked full time to create the Mustang that would be sent over to Picture Car Warehouse as the father of all the KITT derivatives and stunt cars." In actuality, the KITT Mustangs used in the pilot are modified 4.8L GTs designed to look like KR Mustangs.

Saleen Parnelli Jones Special

In addition to the KITT Mustangs, the auction will feature a 2007 Ford Mustang Saleen Parnelli Jones Limited Edition, Number 113 of only 500 produced. The Mustang has been signed by Steve Saleen and motorsports legend Parnelli Jones.  While producing an impressive 400 horsepower with a 302ci V8 engine, this limited-edition racer is dressed in Grabber Orange with black trim and features a shaker hood. Modifications made to this limited edition include forged pistons, rods and crankshaft, a light-weight aluminum flywheel and high-performance exhaust.

“The cars being auctioned by the Day family in Reno Tahoe carry some unique provenance and are backed by some incredible star power as well,” said Steve Davis, president of Barrett-Jackson.

“As a true testament to the Barrett-Jackson family, Tom Day and his family have taken extraordinarily great care of these cars since purchasing them at past auctions, and each will be a fantastic vehicle for a first-time buyer or seasoned collector.”

American Idol Barrett Jackson Shelby GT

“American Idol” TV stars Ryan Seacrest, Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson, Paula Abdul and Kara DioGuardi signed the 2008 Ford Shelby GT Barrett-Jackson Edition Coupe from the Day collection that will be auctioned in Reno Tahoe. Forged from the collaboration of Barrett-Jackson, Ford Motor Company and Shelby American, this 319 horsepower muscle car is Number 8 of 100 cars built and has only 326 miles.

ROUSH’s DUB Edition Mustang

Another special Mustang crossing the block is a 2011 Ford Mustang Custom DUB Edition Coupe developed by ROUSH Industries.

Famous from its TV appearance during a WWE event in Detroit, Michigan, this DUB edition Mustang is black with black stripes and features DUB logos, a hood scoop, tinted windows and special 20-inch wheels.
