A New Job

Reader Story about a Miracle by Stanley Okofu

a new job

I had been unemployed and praying to find a job. One day the power went out in my home, so I decided to take a nap. Now, on my bed, the Bible is open permanently. No particular chapter or verse; it’s just open, and I try to read any verse of scripture I see before I drift off to sleep. On that day I distinctly remember reading Psalm 27:14: "Wait for the LORD; Be strong, and let your heart take courage; Yes, wait for the LORD."

Then I drifted off. I woke up about an hour later, drowsy, and walked to a shelf where an old mobile phone I had abandoned lay. I had switched my phone line off for over a month, and had almost forgotten that some new contacts had that number. Basically, I was trying to ditch anything that had been a part of my unhealthy past (before I had become a Christian, which I had recently), and losing my old mobile number seemed a good way to start.

On this particular day I really didn’t have any reason to pick up that old phone. It had acquired dust and looked like my kids had also been at it. But I had an urge to turn it on, so I did, even though I didn’t have any reason to do so. Immediately a text message shot up on the screen. It read: "Please can we meet today at the office?"

I got scared. That phone had been off for over a month. What if that message had been sent days earlier and I had missed the opportunity?

I scrolled down the message and saw that it was sent just that morning. You can’t imagine my joy! I got dressed, went to the office, and was offered a job in less than 5 minutes! I had no resume, no application letter, nothing. Who else but God could have miraculously given me a job like that?
