Northeastern University has gotten much more selective in recent years, and in 2015 only 28% of all applicants were admitted. To get in, you will likely need grades and standardized test scores that are well above average. In the graph above, the blue and green dots represent accepted students. You can see that the majority of successful applicants had high school averages of "B+" or higher, combined SAT scores of 1250 or higher, and ACT composite scores of 26 or better. Your chances are best with grades in the "A" range and standardized test scores above these lower ranges.

Note that there are quite a few red dots (rejected students) and yellow dots (waitlisted students) mixed in with the green and blue in the middle section of the graph. Many students with grades and test scores that were on target for Northeastern University did not get accepted. On the flip side, you can also see that a few students were accepted with test scores and grades a bit below the norm. This is because Northeastern's admissions process evaluates more than numbers. The university uses the Common Application and has holistic admissions. Northeastern University's admissions officers will want to see that you have taken rigorous high school courses, not courses that get you an easy "A." Also, they will be looking for a winning essay, interesting extracurricular activities, and strong letters of recommendation. Finally, note that portfolios are recommended for art and graphic design students and required for music technology and studio art programs.

Early Admission

Northeastern University has both Early Decision and Early Action options for admission. Both are excellent ways to demonstrate your interest in the university, although Early Decision carries more weight since an acceptance will be binding. If Northeastern is definitely your first choice school, Early Decision is an excellent way to improve your chances of being admitted.
