Discussion of Oglethorpe University's Admissions Standards:

Oglethorpe University has selective admissions, and successful applicants will need solid grades and standardized test scores to be accepted. The majority of admitted students have grades and scores that are above average. In the graph above, the blue and green dots represent students who won admission. Most had SAT scores (RW+M) of 1000 or higher, an ACT composite of 20 or higher, and a high school average of a "B" or better. Grades and test scores a little above these lower ranges will improve your chances, and you can see that many admitted students had grades in the "A" range.

You can see in the middle of the graph that some red dots (rejected students) and yellow dots (waitlisted students) overlap with the green and blue. This means that some students with grades and test scores that were on target for Oglethorpe University did not get get in. Note also that a few students were accepted with test scores and grades a bit below the norm. This is because Oglethorpe University  has holistic admissions and makes decisions based on more than numbers. Whether you use Oglethorpe'sown application or the Common Application, the admissions folks will be looking for a strong application essay, meaningful extracurricular activities, and a positive letter of recommendation.
