Data courtesy of Cappex. Discussion of Ohio Northern University's Admissions Standards: Ohio Northern University, one of the top Ohio colleges, has selective admissions. The acceptance rate is fairly high, but students tend to be self-selecting, and most have strong grades and standardized test scores. In the graph above, the blue and green dots represent accepted students. Most successful applicants had high school averages of "B+" or higher, combined SAT scores of 1100 or higher, and ACT composite scores of 22 or better. Higher numbers clearly improve your chances, and many accepted students had solid "A" averages. You'll notice that there are a few red dots (rejected students) in the middle of the graph. Some students with grades and test scores that were on target for Ohio Northern University did not win admission. On the other hand, some students were accepted with grades and standardized test scores that were a bit below the norm. This is because ONU's admissions process is based on more than numerical data. The college uses the Common Application and has holistic admissions. ONU's admissions folks will want to see that you have taken rigorous high school courses, not courses that get you an easy "A." Also, they will be looking for an engaging personal essay, interesting extracurricular activities, a sharp short answer, and strong letters of recommendation. Some programs require portfolios or auditions. Finally, be sure to demonstrate your interest when you reply to the question in the supplement to the Common Application, "Why Ohio Northern?"
