Discussion of Old Dominion's Admissions Standards:

Old Dominion University has somewhat selective admissions. In 2015, about one out of every five applicants did not get in. Successful applicants will need standardized test scores and high school grades that are average or higher. In the scattergram above, the blue and green dots represent accepted students. The data show that most successful applicants had high school grades of "B-" or better, combined SAT scores of 950 or higher (RW+M), and ACT composite scores of 18 or better.

You'll notice some red dots (rejected students) and yellow dots (waitlisted students) mixed in with the green and blue in the middle of the graph. Some students with grades and test scores that were on target for Old Dominion did not get in. At the same time, you can see that some students were accepted with test scores and grades that were below the norm. This is because Old Dominion's admissions process is not just quantitative. The university has holistic admissions and will consider factors such as your application essay, extracurricular activities, and letters of recommendation. If your grades and test scores are marginal, you should definitely submit these optional materials.
