Discussion of Olin College's Admissions Standards:

Franklin W. Olin College of Engineering is one of the country's most selective colleges, so you're going to need grades and standardized test scores that are significantly above average. In 2015, only 11% of applicants were admitted. In the graph above, the blue and green dots represent accepted students, and you can see that most students who got into Olin had "A" averages, SAT scores (RW+M) above 1400, and ACT composite scores of 32 or better. Most admitted Olin students had solid "A" averages in high school.

Olin College, like all of the country's most selective colleges, has holistic admissions, so successful applicants need to have strengths that go beyond impressive grades and test scores. This is why you see some red dots (rejected students) and yellow dots (waitlisted students) mixed in with the green and blue in the graph. Competitive applications should have a winning essay, strong letters of recommendation, and interesting extracurricular activities. Most important of all, Olin is looking for students who took challenging college preparatory course, not classes that earn an easy "A." Olin is unusual in that a group of admissions finalists are invited to campus in February and early March to complete the application process. These finalists will work on a design project, participate in team exercises, and do an individual interview.
