Introduction

Olivia Valdes is the Associate Editorial Director for ThoughtCo. She has been with Dotdash since 2017.

Experience

Olivia began writing for Dotdash as a freelance education writer in 2017, covering college admissions and study skills on ThoughtCo. The following year, she joined ThoughtCo’s editorial staff, managing a team of freelancers and overseeing all content initiatives on the site. In 2019, she was the editorial lead in the launch of Learn Religions, LiveAbout, and AboutEspañol; in 2020, she was the editorial lead in the re-launch of Treehugger.

Before joining Dotdash, Olivia worked in the manuscript editorial department at Yale University Press. She has also written for The Economist Careers Network and other education outlets.

Olivia is also the founder of Zen Admissions. Through Zen Admissions, Olivia provides college admissions consulting services, including essay coaching, scholarship and summer program advising, and application prep. As a writer and editor, Olivia enjoys empowering students to craft their own one-of-a-kind narratives.

Olivia graduated from Yale University with a B.A. in American Studies.
