Discussion of Oregon State's Admissions Standards:

Oregon State's admissions are only moderately selective -- about one in every four applicants will be rejected. Nevertheless, successful applicants will need to have decent grades and standardized test scores. In the scattergram above, the blue and green dots represent accepted students. As the data show, the majority of admitted students had high school grades in the "A" or "B" range, ACT composite scores of 20 or higher, and combined SAT scores of 1000 or better. An "A" average makes admittance extremely likely.

Note that there are a few red dots (rejected students) and yellow dots (waitlisted students) mixed in with the green and blue on the graph. A few students with grades and test scores that were on target for the Oregon State University were rejected. Also note that some students were admitted with test scores and GPAs a little bit below the norm. This is because the Oregon State University has a holistic admissions process, and the admissions officers evaluate you as a whole person, not as a few pieces of numerical data. They will be evaluating the rigor of your high school courses and your level of involvement with extracurricular activities. The university also asks applicants to create an Insight Resumé that asks questions about your leadership experience, community service, ability to deal with adversity, and several other topics.
