The 146-acre campus is located in Parkland, Washington, just a few miles south of Tacoma. The university offers a mix of liberal arts and professional programs, with business, nursing and communications being the most popular among undergraduates. Students can choose from 44 majors and 54 minors. Pacific Lutheran has a 15 to 1 student / faculty ratio, and all classes are taught by professors, not graduate students or teaching assistants. About 450 students study abroad every year. Student life is active with more than 100 clubs and activities including Gamer's Guild, Creative Writing Club, Black Student Union, and numerous academic honor societies and musical performance groups. In athletics, the PLU Lutes compete in the NCAA Division III Northwest Conference. The university fields 19 intercollegiate teams.
