The Quicken Loans National was added to the PGA Tour schedule beginning in 2007, replacing The International, which ceased operations following the 2006 season. But this tournament itself ceased operations following the 2018 event: The title sponsor withdrew in order to take on a new PGA Tour event scheduled to debut in Detroit, Mich., in 2019. No replacement title sponsor was found.

The National was managed by the Tiger Woods Foundation and Woods served as a de facto host.

The tournament was often played on or close to the Fourth of July weekend and included many activities to honor the Armed Forces and military families. It was played on a golf course in the greater Washington, D.C., area.

2018 National
Francesco Molinari posted his first PGA Tour win in this tournament's last edition. The National ceased operation following this year's tournament. But Molinari sent it out with a bang, shattering the tournament scoring record with a 259—seven shots lower than the previous best winning score. Molinari closed with a final-round 62 and beat runner-up Ryan Armour by eight strokes. 266 - Troy Merritt, 2015

2017 Quicken Loans National
Kyle Stanley won the tournament on the first playoff hole. Stanley and Charles Howell III finished 72 holes tied at 7-under 273. On the first extra hole, though, Howell bogeyed, allowing Stanley to win it with a par. It was Stanley's second career win on the PGA Tour, his first since 2012.

2016 Tournament
Billy Hurley III claimed his first career victory on the PGA Tour by winning this event. Hurley carded four rounds in the 60s to finish at 267, one stroke away from tying the tournament's 72-hole scoring record. He finished three strokes in front of runner-up Vijay Singh.

PGA Tour Quicken Loans National Golf Courses:

The tournament is currently played at TPC Potomac at Avenel Farm in Maryland, just outside Washington, D.C.

The Quicken Loans National was played at Congressional Country Club in its first three years of existence. But Congressional's Blue Course was the site of the 2011 U.S. Open. So during 2010-11, the AT&T National moved to Aronimink Golf Club in New Square (Philadelphia area), Pa.

In 2012, the tournament returned to Congressional.

Quicken Loans National Trivia and Notes:

  • When Tiger Woods won in 2009, he completed a hat trick of tournaments hosted by players. Earlier in the season, he won the Arnold Palmer Invitational, then Jack Nicklaus' Memorial. He accomplished the same feat in 2012.
  • The tournament's 18-hole scoring record of 62 was set twice in 2009. Anthony Kim posted that score in the first round, then Hunter Mahan matched it in the final round.
  • But in 2015, Troy Merritt lowered that 18-hole record to 61. And he lowered the tournament's 72-hole record also by one shot, to 266.
