Discussion of Pitzer's Admissions Standards:

Pitzer College has highly selective admissions—in 2015, only 13% of all applicants received an acceptance letter. In the graph above, the blue and green dots represent accepted students. You can see that the majority of successful applicants had high school averages of "A-" or better, combined SAT scores of 1200 or higher, and ACT composite scores of 26 or better. Your high school grades and extracurricular involvement are going to be far more important than standardized test scores in the Pitzer admissions process—the college has test-optional admissions. Note that homeschooled students do need to submit either SAT or ACT scores.

You'll notice that there are a lot of red dots (rejected students) and yellow dots (waitlisted students) mixed in with the green and blue throughout the graph, even in the upper right corner. An "A" average and stellar SAT scores do not guarantee of admission to Pitzer. This is because Pitzer's admissions process is grounded in much more than numerical data. The university uses The Common Application and has holistic admissions. The admissions folks take into consideration the rigor of your high school courses, your application essay, extracurricular activities, and letters of recommendation. Pitzer's curriculum has a strong focus on social justice and intercultural understanding, and their website notes that they look for evidence of an applicant's "socially conscious independence." Pitzer also highly recommends that applicants interview with the admissions staff.
