Discussion of Queens College's Admissions Standards:

CUNY's Queens College is selective, and in 2015 only 40% of all applicants received an offer of admission. Successful applicants typically have grades and standardized test scores that are average or better. In the graph above, the blue and green dots represent students who won admission. Most had SAT scores of 1050 or higher (RW+M), an ACT composite of 21 or higher, and a high school average of a "B" or better. Having standardized test scores above this lower range can improve an applicant's chances measurably.

Having grades and test scores in this range does not guarantee admission. You can see in the graph that there are quite a few red dots (rejected students) and yellow dots (waitlisted students) mixed in with the green and blue. Some students with grades and test scores that were on target for Queens College did not get in. Note also that a few students were accepted with test scores and grades a bit below the norm. This is because Queens College has holistic admissions. While grades and SAT/ACT scores are the most important part of an application, the college also looks at an applicant's grade trends, application essay, and letters of recommendation.
