If you are in the mood for a relaxed, enjoyable movie, pick up the DVD of The Holiday. Fall in love with love itself. Cameron Diaz puts up an amazing performance as Amanda. Kate Winslet adds a whiff of British charm as Iris.

What Makes The Holiday Such a Lovable Movie?

There must be some reason that TimeOut magazine and other publications regard The Holiday as one of the top 50 movies to watch during Christmas.

Does the movie have a special Christmassy feel to it? Or is it that the mellow, sweet romance with a touch of English charm adds a touch of sweet nostalgia for the good life? Here are my top 5 reasons why The Holiday is a must watch during Christmas.

1. The Feel Good Factor of Christmas Is the Essence of the Movie

The Holiday is a multi-starrer, feel-good, romantic comedy, with a touch of Irish charm, pretty little cottage tucked away into a dreamy land of snowy goodness. Okay, I got a bit carried away here. But you can't help but fall in love with the visuals of the movie. Cameron Diaz is her pumped up self, full of vibrance and energy. Kate Winslet looks like Goldilocks, who has just found a home away from home. Jude Law is arguably the most handsome single father, you'd want to date. And Jack Black steals the show with his whip-smart lines. What more can one ask for?

2. You Get to See the American and British Lifestyle In One Movie

I love the sharp contrast that the movie portrays.

On the one hand, you have Iris played by the charming Kate Winslet, who leaves her idyllic surroundings of Surrey to embrace the swanky lifestyle of Amanda, played by Cameron Diaz. Amanda, on the other hand, chooses to trade places with the not-so-glamorous Iris in a distant moor, which looks like a postcard picture of Old England.

She does not mind the quaint bathroom or the oddly Victorian furniture, having lived a plush and crazy life in Los Angeles.

3. Arthur Abbott (Eli Wallach) Completely Steals Your Heart

Arthur Abbott is an erstwhile screenwriter from the golden days of Hollywood. He has many interesting tales to tell about his good old days. Iris' compassionate friendship inspires you to do something for the forgotten heroes who are now incapacitated due to age. When Arthur Abbott finally goes to the Screenwriters' Guild award ceremony, he is surprised to receive a warm reception by the film fraternity. He also makes a stunning speech, that makes Iris proud of him. This just goes to show how a little love and compassion can go a long distance. Don't you want to do something nice during the holidays?

4. Jude Law Makes a Great Dad, and He Is Also a Gorgeous Boyfriend Material

It is not a sin to fall in love with a single dad with two adorable daughters. Amanda finds a sensitive dad and loving boyfriend in Iris' brother, Graham. The fact that Graham is such a real, down to earth person, who is in touch with his emotional side and cries buckets at the crack of a whip makes him even more date-worthy. You could simply watch the movie for Jude Law.

5. It's Christmas! The Movie Makes for a Perfect Romantic Setting

I particularly loved the last scene of the movie. There's so much of goodness in the simplistic ending of this romantic movie. The snow, the Christmas gifts, and the old wold charm of a warm hearth in a cottage covered in snow create a fantasy world, where everyone would love to escape once in a while.

So whether or not you choose to celebrate your Christmas with your family, make sure to watch this movie, The Holiday with your best friends and loved ones. And for a final round up, read these quotes from the movie The Holiday, and relive the best moments of the movie.

It's Christmas Eve and we are going to go celebrate being young and being alive.

  • Iris
I have found almost everything ever written about love to be true. Shakespeare said, "Journeys end in lovers meeting." What an extraordinary thought.

  • Graham
I have a cow and I sew. How's that for "hard to relate to"?

  • Miles
    You're incredible! You're a prodigy! A doodle prodigy!

  • Graham
I have the classic male problem of no follow through. Absolutely never remember to call after a date -- but as this wasn't a date, I guess I'm off the hook.

  • Miles
The wind... it's what makes it so warm this time of year. Legend has it, when the Santa Anas blow, anything can happen.

  • Iris
Arthur, I've been going to a therapist for three years and she's never explained anything to me that well. That was brilliant. Brutal, but brilliant.

  • Arthur Abbott
Iris, in the movies, we have leading ladies and we have the best friend. You, I can tell, are a leading lady, but for some reason, you're behaving like the best friend.

  • Miles
Okay. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to kiss you twice... and then linger a long time on the second kiss.

  • Miles
Iris, if you were a melody, I used only the good notes.

  • Iris
Because you're hoping you're wrong. And every time he does something that tells you he's no good, you ignore it. And every time he comes through and suprises you, he wins you over, and you lose that argument with yourself, that he's not for you.

  • Iris
You're supposed to be the leading lady in your own life, for God's sake!

  • Graham
Long distance relationships can work, you know.
