Welcome to Verse of the Day!

Today's Bible Verse:

Romans 12:2
Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. (ESV)

Today's Inspiring Thought: Renewing Your Mind

Are you trying to discern God's will for you life? The New Living Translations says it like this: "Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think."

So, discerning God's will begins with a transformation in our thinking. And our minds are a battlefield.

The battle for the mind is an internal struggle all believers fight. We can be easily deceived and led astray in our minds. Paul reminds us in Philippians 2:5: "Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus." (NKJV)

But how do we keep the mind of Jesus Christ? How do we win the battle for the mind?

Here are three daily disciplines for renewing your mind:

Renew your mind by daily meditating on God's Word.

We need God's Word on a daily basis. Just as we require breakfast in the morning to fuel our bodies, we need the Word of God to renew our minds and feed our spirits.

Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’” (Matthew 4:4, NIV)

Set your mind on the things of the Spirit.

We have to keep the right mindset to win the battle.

If the television is setting your mind on the flesh, turn it off. Pay attention to what you are reading, listening to, and what your eyes are watching. Keep your mind set on spiritual truths, and not on the deceptions of this world.

Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace.

(Romans 8:5-6, NIV)

Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. (Colossians 3:1-2, NIV)

Take your thoughts captive.

We have to grab our thoughts and take them captive before they take hold of us. Take hold of godly thoughts and reject the unholy ones.

We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. (2 Corinthians 10:5, NIV)

When we stop copying the patterns and behaviors of this world, which is mere outward conformity, and allow God to completely change the way we think from the inside out, we are truly transformed into new creations. Then our minds can begin to know and understand God's good and pleasing will—his perfect will, in fact.
