Discussion of Rhode's Admissions Standards:

As the scattergram above reveals, Rhodes College is a highly selective university. Less than half of all applicants are admitted, and those who get in tend to have academic records that are well above average. The blue and green dots represent accepted students, so you can see that the great majority of students who were admitted had a GPA up in the "A" range, an ACT composite score above 24, and a combined SAT score (RW+M) above 1200.

Throughout the graph, you'll notice that a few red dots (rejected students) and many yellow dots (waitlisted students) overlap with the green and blue. This means that some students who were potentially on target for admission to Rhodes College did not get in. On the flip side, you can see that a few students were accepted with test scores and grades below the norm. This is because Rhodes College uses the Common Application and has holistic admissions, so the admissions officers are evaluating students based on more than numerical data. Your personal essay, extracurricular activities, and letters of recommendation all play a part in the admissions process. Students who show some kind of remarkable talent or have a compelling story to tell will often get a close look even if grades and test scores aren't up to the ideal.
