Welcome to Verse of the Day!

Today's Bible Verse:

Philippians 4:19
And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. (ESV)

Today's Inspiring Thought: According to His Riches

We had a little saying among the members of our church staff: "Where God leads, he meets needs. And where God guides, he provides."

Because the ministry the Lord has currently called me to fulfill has an internet presence, I receive emails from people all around the globe requesting financial assistance.

Some go so far as to say that without my help, their ministry will be impossible. But I know better. We serve a great big God. He is able to equip those he has called, and he will supply every need of those who serve and follow him.

"God's work done in God's way will never lack God's supplies." -- Hudson Taylor

Sometimes what we think we need isn't what we really need. If we base our expectations on our own ideas or the expectations of others, we may be disappointed. God knows what we need and promises to supply those needs as long as we follow his plan and his will.

Bible teacher J. Vernon McGee wrote:

"Whatever Christ has for you to do, He will supply the power. Whatever gift He gives you, He will give the power to exercise that gift. A gift is a manifestation of the Spirit of God in the life of the believer. As long as you function in Christ, you will have power. He certainly does not mean that he is putting into your hand unlimited power to do anything you want to do. Rather, He will give you the enablement to do all things in the context of His will for you."

Often it's better to focus on the needs of others and let God tend to our concerns. This is a sign of contentment and trust. Generosity combined with obedience to God will bring reward:

You must be compassionate, just as your Father is compassionate. "Do not judge others, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn others, or it will all come back against you. Forgive others, and you will be forgiven. Give, and you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full — pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, running over, and poured into your lap. The amount you give will determine the amount you get back." (Luke 6:36-38, NLT)

If you help the poor, you are lending to the Lord — and he will repay you! (Proverbs 19:17, NLT)

If God has called us, we ought not look to people to supply our needs. Even though God will most likely provide what we lack through other people, we are wise not to depend on human help. We are to trust the Lord and look to him who possesses all the riches in glory.

God's Treasury Is Limitless

Keep in mind that God doesn't just supply our needs; he provides everything for us according to his riches in glory. It's humanly impossible to fathom the depth and range of God's glorious treasury. His resources are without limits. He is the Creator and owner of all things. All that we have belongs to him.

So how do we make a withdrawal from God's abundant treasury? Through Jesus our Lord. Christ has full access to God's account. When we need resources, we take it up with Jesus. Whether we have a physical or spiritual need, the Lord is here for us:

Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:6-7, NLT)

Perhaps your need today feels insurmountable. Let's go to Jesus in prayer and present our requests:

Dear Lord, we thank you for these great needs. Help us to see this moment as an opportunity to depend on you more. We look forward with expectation knowing you will supply these needs according to your riches in glory. We trust in your great love, power, and faithfulness to fill the void. In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.
