Using the PowerPoint Free Rotate Picture Handle

One of the easiest ways to rotate a picture on a PowerPoint slide is to free rotate the picture. By that I mean that you simply rotate the picture manually until the resultant angle is to your liking.

  1. Click the picture on the slide to select it.
    • The free rotate handle is a green circle on the top border in the center of the picture.
  2. Hover the mouse over the green circle. Note that the mouse cursor changes to a circular tool. Press and hold the mouse as you rotate the picture to the left or right.

Fifteen Degree Increments of Rotation

  1. As you rotate the picture on the slide, the mouse cursor changes once again with the rotation.
  2. Release the mouse when you reach the desired angle of rotation.
    • Note - To rotate by precise 15 degree increments, hold the Shift key while you move the mouse.
  3. If you change your mind about the angle of the picture, simply repeat step two until you are happy with the result.

Choose the Angle of Rotation for Pictures

Once you have clicked on the More Rotation Options... button, the Format Picture dialog box appears.

  1. Click on Size in the left pane of the dialog box, if it is not already selected.
  2. Under the Size section, you will see the Rotation text box. Use the up or down arrows to select the correct angle of rotation, or simply type the angle in the text box.

    Notes
    • If you wish to rotate the picture to the left you may type a "minus" sign in front of the angle. For example, to rotate the picture 12 degrees to the left, type -12 in the text box.
    • Alternatively, you may enter the number as an angle in a 360 degree circle. In that case an angle 12 degrees to the left could also be entered as 348 degrees.
  3. Click the Close button to apply the change.
