RPI's admissions are generally selective--in 2016 the acceptance rate of 44%. Applicants are encouraged to apply via the Common Application, including the RPI supplement. RPI, the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, is a technology-focused university located in Troy, New York, a city of about 50,000 near the state capital of Albany. RPI has a 14 to 1 student / faculty ratio and more of an undergraduate focus than many of the top engineering schools. RPI does well on the financial aid front with nearly all students receiving some form of institutional grant. RPI can also boast of an 82% six-year graduation rate. RPI is highly selective and consistently ranks highly among engineering schools. In athletics, RPI has a competitive Division I hockey team. Other popular sports include swimming, basketball, football, soccer, and track and field.
