Discussion of Samford's Admissions Standards:

Samford University admits the great majority of students who apply, but the applicant pool tends to be relatively strong. To get in, you're probably going to need grades and standardized test scores that are above average. In the scattergram above, the blue and green dots represent students who got in. You can see that the majority of admitted students had high school averages of B+ or higher, ACT composite scores of 21 or higher and combined SAT scores (RW+M) of about 1050 or higher.

You can see that there are a couple red dots (rejected students) and yellow dots (waitlisted students) hidden behind the green and blue in the middle of the graph, so some students who seemed to be on target for Samford did not get in. Note also that a few students were accepted with test scores and grades a little below the norm. This is because Samford University, like most selective colleges, has a holistic admissions process. Whether you use the Common Application or Samford's own application, numerical data is just part of the admissions equation. The university will also want to see a rigorous high school curriculum, meaningful extracurricular activities, a well-crafted personal statement, and a glowing letter of recommendation.
