The 15 public universities in Michigan offer a wide range of options for prospective students. The schools vary in size from a few thousand students to nearly 50,000, and the personalities and academic foci and strengths also vary widely.

When it comes to selectivity in the admissions process, you'll also find a lot of variety. The University of Michigan's main campus in Ann Arbor (one of the country's top public universities) is significantly more selective than the other Michigan public universities, but all campuses have at least slightly selective admissions.

Use the table below to see how your own SAT scores measure up at each of the campuses.

You'll notice that several universities do not report SAT scores. This is because Michigan, like all states in the Midwest, tends to receive far more ACT scores than SAT scores (but keep in mind that you are welcome to use either test for admission). If the number of students submitting SAT scores is too low, a university is likely to report just ACT scores. The table below shows the middle 50% of enrolled students. If your scores fall within or above these ranges, you're on target for admission. Keep in mind, however, that 25% of matriculated students had SAT scores below the lower number. Your chances of admission certainly decrease if you're below the norm, but you shouldn't automatically assume that you won't get in.

Also keep in mind that admission to Michigan public universities is not a simple mathematical equation.

A strong academic record with challenging courses, meaningful extracurricular activities, and in many cases a winning personal statement can improve your chances. Different programs may also have different admissions standards, so the numbers below fall far short of telling the whole admissions story.
