The admissions bar isn't overly high at most institutions, but the level of selectivity does vary quite a bit. To help you determine if your test scores are on target for your top choice Mississippi schools, the table above can help guide you. The SAT scores in the table are for the middle 50% of enrolled students. If your scores fall within or above these ranges, you're on target for admission to one of these Mississippi colleges. If your scores are slightly below the range presented in the table, don't lose all hope -- remember that 25% of enrolled students have SAT scores below those listed.

It's also important to put the SAT in perspective. The exam is just one part of the application, and a strong academic record is even more important than test scores. Also, some of the more selective colleges will be looking for a strong essay, meaningful extracurricular activities and good letters of recommendation.

Note that the ACT is much more popular than the SAT in Mississippi, and because of the small number of students reporting SAT scores, some colleges report ACT scores only.
